  • Gut health and Chronic Inflammation

Over the past few years, I have beenlooking more deeply into gut health, the Microbiome and Chronic inflammation, sparked by my own health journey.

It is well known that chronic inflammationis at the core of a considerable number of health issues. And there is also more and more evidence suggesting that gut health plays a major role in chronic inflammation. Gut health and the Microbiome not only affect physical health but can also affect brain function and mental well-being. These days one can even find nutritional psychiatrists and whole conferences are dedicated to the topic of gut health affecting our brain and mind.

Our modern lifestyle, including environmental factors, toxins, our modern diet and stress have put our bodies under a lot of strain. And this seems to have resulted, amongst other issues, in impaired gut health including an altered Microbiome. This can lead to chronic inflammation. This chronic inflammation can be expressed in the organism in various ways; from issues such as heart disease, altered cognitive function, issues with our immune system to autoimmune diseases and mental health issues.

The field of Epigenetics has expanded considerably in recent times and there is evidence suggesting that our genes can be affected by our lifestyle. It has become more widely known that there are factors that can ‘switch off’ certain genes; which is why looking at our life style and habits can be very useful to support our organism to achieve optimum health.

I try to consider all the afore-mentioned factors in my consultations and I aim to help you to identify anything that may have a negative impact on your organism but also on your gut health in particular. We may discuss ways you can improve gut function and the Microbiome and how to reduce the level of inflammation by means of diet, supplements, life style changes, mind-body techniques and other tools such as Homeopathy.
